Runway Spotlight: Marchesa
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week | New York City
Spotlighting a favorite from SpringSummer 2013:
“Namaste, India. This is New York City calling.”
So said Georgina Chapman & Keren Craig as they debuted a Spring|Summer 2013 collection that paid homage to the land of Ganesha. Although rather elementary in design, thematically it remained in its trajectory. Rich like India’s history, the pieces were a kaleidoscopic parade of breathtaking colors. Gilded, intricate detail snaked from various angles. Dresses came in different variations- from cascading layers to frolicking fringes. A multitude of textures were quite visible.
Unlike in the home country where they would be loosely flowing, traditional Indian patterns were modernized & made to tightly ravel around a lady’s physique. Scandalously acceptable. The acid green ribbed ensemble was perfection. Somewhat discreet, the bejeweled cuffs, hemline & neckline were opulent. An orange speckled piece seemed as if it was bursting in flames & the nude-colored creation, it was simply pretty. Collectively, the pieces are attractive. | Giuseppe
