Runway Spotlight: Gianfranco Ferré
Canon Fashion Week | Milan
Spotlighting a favorite from SpringSummer 2013:
From the latest collection that debuted in Milan, there’s not much to be said about the future of Gianfranco Ferré. He still lives on. After all, he was dubbed the architect of fashion. For a fashion brand that is often criticized, at times neglected, it has yet to lose its luster. With designers Federico Piaggi & Stefano Citron at the helm of the design stage, the brand seems modernized & refreshed.
Linear, geometric cuts dominate the pieces, giving a confident sense of definition; literally a construction of sophististication. Black & white. The collection is asymmetrical, an infusion of ambiguity & modernity. And although it’s somewhat minimal, the beauty of the pieces lies in the little detail that radiates throughout. However even in its simplicity, there are layers.
Python slithers across as belts or down shirts as collars. It also spans entirely as a dress. It’s quite evident that the collection sits mostly high above the knees. The focal points occur along the chest: low necklines, asymmetrical shoulders, sheer fabrics. The waistlines are belted. Not to be overlooked, the collection gives a lot of potential to itself as well as the brand. | Giuseppe
