Runway Spotlight: Christian Dior
Paris Fashion Week | Paris
Spotlighting a favorite from SpringSummer 2013:
There were lingering concerns in certain quarters that Raf Simons’ minimal aesthetic would affect his Spring/Summer 2013 ready-to-wear collection, despite proving naysayers wrong in July with his first haute couture collection for the House of Dior. But the ready-to-wear collection put an end to all that.
Once again, Simons amalgamated simplicity and the femininity that the House of Dior has always been noted for. Cleverly, he chose to open the show by sending Daria Strokous down the runway in a wonderfully tailored pantsuit and then closed it with a superlative black strapless dress.
And in between: sumptuously long, full skirts of floral-printed fabric that floated past a coral form-skimming strapless dress lined in pink. There were shorts paired with strapless tops of subtle metallic fabric. A new twist on the minidress, perhaps? That was the impression. Short day dresses, sleeveless or strapless. Boldly striped, pink and black, two-tone metallics.
A favourite was a beautiful 1960’s-style black cocktail dress with a transparent black overdress. Followed by a full black skirt just peeking out from under a loose-fitting black jacket sewn over with delicate red flowers. Overall, a pretty and feminine collection. | Katja Anderson
